Privacy Policy

This policy is valid from 1 July 2005.

Australian Association of the Deaf (AAD) respects your rights under the National Privacy Principles in the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

This policy describes what information AAD holds about you, and what we use this information for.

Information AAD holds about you

AAD holds some or all of the following information about our members, subscribers and donors:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Telephone numbers – TTY, voice, mobile
  • Fax number
  • Email address

We use this information to

Send you copies of our newsletters and other information about AAD activities and related matters.

Send you discussion papers and questionnaires for you to fill out and return to us if you wish.

Process membership payments, donations and any other payments as specifically requested by you, and issue receipts.

Respond to your enquiries.

Seek your assistance or involvement in AAD activities.

Acknowledge your support, by name only, in AAD publications.

We give information to

If you are a member of AAD your name and contact information is sent to the state branch of AAD in the state in which you live. This is because when you join AAD you also become a member of your state branch. Your state branch needs this information so that they can send you information such as their newsletters and local activities.

We do not give your information to anyone else (unless required by law) without your permission.

If you do not wish to receive information from AAD or from your state branch, you can tell us and we will not send it to you.

Information that we send to you from other people or organisations

AAD sometimes receives requests from other people or organisations to send information to our members. This is mainly for research projects that these other organisations are doing. It might also be information about products and services that are suitable for Deaf people.

We do not give your information to these other people or organisations.

Instead, they send us the information they want to send to you, and we send it to you for them.

If you do not wish to receive information from other people or organisations you can tell AAD, and we will not send it to you.

Using the AAD website

When you view information on our website, you are not required to give any personal information about yourself. This website contains a visitors log which records the number of times our website is visited. This log does not record any personal information about you.

When you use the “Send an email to AAD” facility on the website, you are required to send us your email address. We use this information to reply to your email. We do not add this information to any mailing lists or give it to any other person or organisation without your consent.

Posting a message to the AAD online forums requires you to enter your name and email address. This information is accessible to anyone who accesses our online forums, and you post messages to these forums at your own risk. Old messages are stored in the website archives. AAD does not collect and store these names and email addresses in any other way.

We do not currently use cookies on our website to collect personal information about you.

You may find out what information AAD holds about you at any time.

If you believe our information about you is incorrect or incomplete, you can contact us and ask us to correct it.
