Dorothy Shaw Young Writers Competition to become an AAD activityFrom this year, the well known Dorothy Shaw Young Writers Competition will be an activity of the Australian Association of the Deaf (AAD). Australian Communication Exchange (ACE) has transferred ownership of this Competition to AAD so that it remains true to its heritage and purpose. ACE will continue to support the Competition as a sponsor.
AAD is very grateful to ACE for this decision and the continued sponsorship. The Competition is for Deaf and hard of hearing students aged 6 – 18. Prizes are given for the best three stories in three categories – Junior, Senior and Young Adult. The first prize winner in each category also wins a prize for their school. There will be some minor changes to the Competition – it will start later in the year than it used to and winners will be announced during National Week of Deaf People in October instead of during Book Week. We are also, for the first time, allowing entries signed in Auslan as well as entries written in English. The purpose, eligibility, criteria, rules and judging procedures will remain the same. AAD has sent information about this year’s Competition to schools and other organisations, but if you do not have a copy, see the information sheet and get the entry form. 4th World Deaf Youth Camp, Spain, 7 - 13 July 2007Australian Assocation of the Deaf (AAD) is inviting you to apply to be one of four potential Australian Representatives to attend this camp. The purpose of this camp is to train youth in organisation and leadership activities as well as stimulating networking so that they can interchange rewarding experiences. In addition, the aim is to make Deaf Youth aware of their capacity for becoming the real leaders of their future. Under the theme Youth + Politics we hope that Deaf Youth can decide, design and perform youth political lines. See the information sheet and application form. |
